“And the chicken tastes like wood…”

Welcome back to the wonderful world of Ben…

Man, things have been kinda busy for me lately that I haven’t had much time to update this thing (or maybe I’ve just been spending too much of my online time on friendster, niketalk and eBay).

Since I don’t have time to write about everything I did, let’s just talk about the highlights:

”I shine, You shine…“

I feel like so much has changed since the last time I wrote. But I don’t know who’s reading this and I’m not one to air out all my business, so we’ll just leave it at that…

So what’s been going on the last couple of weeks?

I got crippled with gout (again!) last week, but this time in my knee. It felt a little funny that Thursday morning, but it didn’t really start kicking in until that Thursday night after Gabe came thru to pick up some speakers. I could just feel my knee ‘clicking’ while I was carrying them to the car. But regardless, I still went into work the next day though, (and it was uncomfortable as shit).

Monster saw me on crutches on Sunday at an impromptu BBQ at the house, and he was asking if I went to New York and got mugged again (Anyone remember that NY mugging story? Oh wait, maybe I should be asking, ‘Does anyone still believe it?’) Anyways, everyone went to go watch Bruce Almighty after the BBQ, but I stayed behind and kicked it with the homie Jae and we screwed around on the tables that night.

Oh yeah, speaking of DJing (and gout), I DJed over at Rafael’s the night before (Saturday) with my bad leg. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it was gonna be, but my leg was a little sore after the night. But it was a pretty cool party. Ryan’s boy Ason was there performing with LMNTal and this other female emcee, Snayk Eyez came thru, finally met Cutz (I never got a chance to at that Rob Swift party at Mission Rock), and got to watch the almighty Neogeo put it down that night. That dude is straight fire…

Nook is such a tease (not in that way). But sometimes she gets me excited about stuff, then she changes her mind at the last minute. We were trying to find a place to eat after the party at Rafael’s, so we drove to the Ling Nam in Vallejo (since my cousins own it, and I was hoping to get the player hookup). Unfortunately, it was closed, but I was still craving it. So I asked if she was down to go to the Ling Nam back home in Daly City (since the one in DC is 24 hours), and she said she was down. But, the closer we got to home, she kept hinting that I should just eat at home and that she was getting tired.

Boo to you woman! I was hella hungry… Like I could just imagine the taste it in my mouth and everything! Anyways, I think she knew I was a little annoyed with her, and so I winded eating some left overs in the fridge that night. I’m secretly waiting for the next time she gets a craving… so I can agree to go, and then last minute, change things up.

Well, she’s probably reading this right now, so I guess it’s not much of a secret. But beware woman, you have been warned

Anyways…

I had jury duty this week (boo). This was my first time actually being called in, and I was trying to think of ways I could get out of being selected; like things to wear, say and stuff like that.

It was a trip, I even saw my next door neighbor that I’ve never talked to before there (we were even in the same group in court). Anyways, while they were questioning potential jurors, I was hella trying to think of reasons that I shouldn’t be picked. Nothing good came to mind, so I settled on the excuse that I have a bias against Asian drivers, since the driver was Chinese. Luckily, it didn’t have to come to that. I was picked as a potential back up juror, but they winded up settling before trial the next day. Whew!

Moving right along…

This past weekend was pretty cool.

Friday after work, me and Mishi headed up to Livermore for the PASA banquet. I went to DJ with Gabe that night, while Nook went to Pac Bell Park to watch a Giants game. The banquet was pretty cool, everyone was all dressed up and everything. By the end of the night, half the people were drunk and you could tell that the hotel wasn’t too happy having a bunch of loud brown people chillin in the front. I was planning on bouncing pretty quick to head back to the city afterward, but Joel knows how to peer pressure a brother into staying. I went upstairs to check out a couple of the hotel rooms, but it didn’t seem like too much was going on, so I left (plus I was getting hella hungry).

I drove to Daly City to meet up with Nook and my sister at a party at SJ’s house. I got there around 2:30 am and was surprised as shit to see that the party was still going on pretty hard… like I could hear hella screaming and music outside and everything. There must’ve been at least 75 people still there (and folks were still coming). By the way, where were you at Winny?

Anyways, there was a DJ playing downstairs, people were toking and smoking in the other room, and SJ and Joe were running around upstairs making people take shots and take turns at the beer bong. It was pretty hilarious. It was like being at friendship games, and they would just walk around the house in a group, choose someone to drink, and then everyone would start to chant and scream and shit. I winded up taking a couple of shots when I got there too.

I saw the old school homie Rupert there, who said that he signed up for the military, and that he was leaving soon (Damn homie! Military???) And I chatted a bit with Jaeson, who said that he was gonna try and get me some more gigs at some of his parties (crossing fingers). But I try not to get my hopes up too high and tend to have an ‘I’ll believe it when I see it’ type attitude. Speaking of seeing is believing, I was at Amoeba’s with Jae earlier in the week when he introduced me to Paulytek. Paul was looking for some DJs for the weekend to spin at F&A’s in Burlingame and he said he would give me a call. He winded up not calling, but I wasn’t mad at that. I’m just glad I got my info out to him… Hopefully he can hook a brother up with some gigs.

Anyways, we left SJ’s house at like 3:30 am or something, and headed down the street to eat at Ling Nam. Damn, it seemed like everyone was hella drunk. I even started to feel a little buzzed too.

The next day (Saturday), I went to go check out Harputs cause I had heard that they were having a buy 1 get 1 free sale. I was a little skeptical as far as selection, but I was surprised as hell when they had a room full of kicks for sale: Air force 1 Goats, dunks, blazers, splatters, wildwoods, lava domes… damn, they had all the dope shit on sale. Me and Nook picked up a pair each and even grabbed some cool little baby shoes (1,2).

Later that night, we went out to Vallejo for Ai’s birthday. High fives to Jessamyn and Mitchie who say they read this garbage. It was good to chit chat and catch up with some of the art folks, especially since I rarely ever see them anymore. I never realized how freaky they were (jk... well, not really. You guys really are freaks.) What have you been doing Mitchie?

Today, I woke up hella early to check out a Nike sample sale in San Mateo. Damn, the shit started at like 10 am, I got there at about 10:10, and all the good shit was already gone. To make up for missing out (and my damn shoe addiction), I went back to Harputs to buy a couple more pairs of kicks, in hopes of selling them off on eBay and making a nice little profit. While I was there though, someone was doing a photo shoot with some dude chillin in the front window in a rhinestone-studded thong. Funny as shit. People were walking by, staring, yelling at him and everything (Hey, it’s the Fillmore… hella ghetto ass people).

Damn, this is a long ass entry. I can’t believe I can babble for this long…

Anyways… Thank you, come again…
